ART and SPIRITUALITY--- a series of workshops with a difference, presented by Theresa Prior

Held at the centre: Sunday 25th October and Sunday 22nd November 11:00 till 4:00pm $60 for each workshop. Attend either or both.

“I wish to encourage participants to be in touch with Divine Mystery; to communicate with the Divine Being we call God at a level that is beyond words through art making. We will be using a variety of media including inks, acrylic paints, oil pastels, shaving crème etc., on paper to produce a series of small art works and 2 large group art works. This is about fun, relaxation, shared spiritual experiences and making a lovely mess.”
Therese has a background in Art teaching and Religious Education teaching. She has her own art practice, specialising in painting and multimedia drawing. Therese has been involved in several group art exhibitions. Her recent art making reflects the spiritual aspects of Presence within Creation.

Dreaming - an exhibition of paintings by Ingrid Russell

Glenbrook artist Ingrid Russell will be holding a solo exhibition at The Event Horizon Gallery in Katoomba from Wednesday 3rd August to Sunday 16th August.

The main focus of her current work is based on an intuitive form of expressionist abstract and figurative works, which Ingrid draws from her “personal dreaming”. Her bold use of colour and line work has images jumping from the canvas. “I start with layers of colour and the images emerge, often surprising me. Once the theme is established, the painting quickly resolves, as if by itself. I become the catalyst through which the canvas speaks”. Ingrid only recently started this style of painting and has found great satisfaction from letting her imagination free reign.

Ingrid is a member of The Blue Mountains Creative Arts Centre Inc at Glenbrook, where she organises classes for adults and children. Her work has been published in The Australian Artist Magazine and is regularly accepted into the prestigious Blacktown Art Show. In 2007 she won The Viewer’s Choice Award at the Friends of Braemar Exhibition in Springwood.

Ingrid has also created a children’s picture book featuring 12 of her paintings and drawings, which will also be on display. “Beauty in the Woods” will be launched at the opening of her exhibition, Saturday 8th from 2:00 till 4:00pm, and signed copies will be available for purchase.

To arts groups in the Blue Mountains

The Australian Plants Society, Blue Mountains Group is holding its 13th Annual Seminar on Sunday 2 August at Blaxland.

As this year’s theme relates to the depiction of native plants in art and design an invitation is extended to arts groups in the area. I apologise for not contacting you earlier but the morning session had to be re-arranged as the keynote speaker withdrew following the sudden death of her husband.

Your members are invited to attend. If any are involved in art or crafts with native plant designs and they would like to talk briefly about their work and/ or display some items they should contact me as soon as possible.
