BMAN Exhibition

BMAN is seeking entries from artists wishing to exhibit their work at the Grand View Three exhibition from 11^th August  to 25^th October. This exhibition has a limited number of spaces available. The exhibition space allows 14 works to be displayed and we have to limit artists to a maximum of two entries each. However we encourage you to enter as the Grand View is quite busy at this time of year and the room is often booked for functions when most sales have occurred.

There are some size restrictions which are spelt out in the attached Exhibition Terms and Conditions of Entry for Exhibitions at the GRAND VIEW GALLERY.

Entry to this exhibition is free.

Pastel Workshop

THE PASSAGE OF LIGHT IN PASTEL   

with Grace Paleg – Established Local Pastel Artist

Saturday & Sunday, 10 &11 May

9.30am to 4.30pm, Batemans Bay, $250

Enjoy two days focusing on the sensitivity of your eyes (your greatest art tool) and learning what it is that you really see.

Your hand and brain will then have their way in expressing who you are.

This workshop will be spent on your individual still life which you learn to choreograph.

Decide what it is that interests you most and bring those objects along.

We shall be considering placement, lighting composition line form colour and above all tone.

Our aim is to recreate objects on surface using light shadow and reflection.

Sculpture at Scenic World 2014 by volunteering?





















We are seeking reliable and enthusiastic people who are keen to be part of this year’s

Sculpture at Scenic World. As a volunteer, you will meet new people, enjoy exciting

cultural experiences and have an active part in communicating with the many visitors

that frequent Scenic World.

Our volunteers play an important role in the delivery of one of the Blue Mountains’

most exciting annual events. The role of the volunteer will focus on informing visitors

about the exhibition and ensuring the safety of artworks.

As part of this exciting opportunity, volunteers will help by facilitating our indoor

exhibition, Sculpture Otherwise. This exhibition features the exhibiting artist’s drawings,

maquettes, videos, sound composition and small sculptures. This year’s exhibition will

be running between 24th

VISITING MASTER ARTIST - LEEANNE CRISP - PORTRAIT PAINTING WEEKEND

Leeanne Crisp MA Visual Arts

Enjoy a weekend workshop painting, with Leeanne Crisp acclaimed portrait painter and academic from Canberra.  Leeanne has work in the National Portrait Gallery and has been in many prizes including the Archibald and Portia Geach. This workshop is for anyone interested in portraits and painting.  It is constructed for people with any level of experience with activities that will develop both your understanding of the portrait and build skills in observing and translating what you see into engaging images. You will come away with practical skills but also a much deeper appreciation of the portrait as a form of communication. For those interested in entering the Doug Moran, the Archibald or the Shirley Hannan portrait prizes, this workshop will provide invaluable insights. Book soon, limited to 10 students only.

About the ArtistLeeanne Crisp is a full time visual artist and educator with 40 years experience. Her current projects embrace figurative, still life, landscape and portrait painting projects with an emphasis on pictorial structure as it relates to embodiment. Leeanne's interests range from art history and theory, art museum education, psychology, neurobiology, film, literature and increasingly -music.
Leeanne has a Master's degree in Painting from ANU and 8 solo shows (Canberra Museum and Gallery, ANU, Solander, Tynte St, CAS Sth Australia) and over sixty group exhibitions. These include Archibald and Dobell Drawing Prizes at the AGNSW, Portia Geach National Women's Portrait Prize(4 times), Blake Prize for Religious Art, National Portrait Gallery 'Sampling recent Australian Portraiture' for the opening of Commonwealth Place and 'Masters of Fare', The Alice Prize, Chapman Gallery, ANCA and M16 studios. Work is in The National Library Visual Collection, The National Portrait Gallery Canberra, Canberra Writers Centre and Adelaide University Students Union. She has won the Tuggeranong Art Prize, The ANU Drawing Prize. She is the recipient of an Arts ACT grant.
Residencies include, Michaelis Art school Cape Town (1998) and Bundanon (3 times). Leeanne has curated shows for both the Academy of Science (Canberra) and Works on Paper exhibitions between Cape Town and Canberra, touring to Poland.

Christmas at the New South Wales Toy and Railway Museum! 

Toys are a wonderful part of the Christmas tradition. This holiday season, there is no better place to experience the Christmas magic which toys can create, than at the New South Wales Toy and Railway Museum in Leura in the Blue Mountains.

Festive decorations, figures, books and postcards have always been produced to mark this joyous time of year. The museum has a fascinating collection of Christmas memorabilia, dating from the early 20^th Century onwards.

Many of our delightful displays have curious histories. One charmingly original set of decorations was recently discovered in a bricked up Dresden warehouse, perfectly preserved despite being buried during World War II bombings.

Among our special displays and permanent collections, Baroque angels form a heavenly chorus, while old Christmas bonbons, wrapping paper, lanterns and figurines complete the scene. Even Barbie gets dressed up for Christmas – the museum’s unrivalled Barbie collection includes many of the limited ‘Festive Barbies’ produced by Mattel to celebrate the season.

Why not have a nostalgic Christmas this year and take a glimpse at the wonders of the festive season and discover how it was celebrated in years past.

The exhibition runs throughout the school holidays.

Artist Call out for Amnesty International Australia

 ARTillery Sydney – a youth arts-activism group associated with Amnesty International Australia is holding their inaugural exhibition/launch night in late November called ‘Offshore and Out of Sight’ and are currently doing an artist call out for this. It would be great for Blue Mountains to be able to be involved in this.

Tempered Glass Mosaics with Marian Shapiro

Dates: Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October
Venue: Blue Mountains Creative Art Centre, Glenbrook

Come and join award winning mosaic artist Marian Shapiro for this one and a half day workshop on Tempered Glass Mosaic. You will use paint, papers and other materials under tempered glass (crash glass), combined with other materials to produce an exquisite, small hanging mosaic (25 c m x 25 cm) suitable for interior display.
Day 1 – 9am to 5pm is for putting the mosaic together.
Day 2 – 10am to 1pm is a short session for grouting and finishing. Participants are welcome to bring their own materials to put under the glass after consultation with Marian.
Use of tools and appropriate mosaic materials sufficient for a small mosaic are provided, but you are very welcome to bring extra materials to make your piece unique and personal. Presentations and books give you lots of inspiration. You get detailed notes and as classes are small, lots of individual attention. And of course, your mosaic creation to take home
Cost: $120 per person
Materials fee: Plus $25 per person payable to the tutor for materials.

Springwood Art Show News

This year's Springwood ART SHOW is coming up in Aug. 30th-1st Sept and we wanted to make sure your members were aware of it if they were interested. It's great to provide more avenues for artists to promote themselves and sell their work.
Our guest speaker this year is Mathew Lynn who won the Packers' Prize at the Archibalds. Our featured artist this year is Guenter Barth. Last year it was John Wilson. We have over $3,000 worth of prizes including the $1,000 Rose Lindsay Award. We also have pleasing sales over the 3 days of the exhibition.

NEW Children's classes

BMCAC is pleased to announce we have four new classes on offer for children in arts and crafts.  All classes are kept small to facilitate maximum benefit from tuition.  All materials are provided.  Classes go for  8 weeks, and cost $120 for the term.

Mondays 4:00 till 5:30
Art Fun for Children - Fantastic Creatures for 6 to 9 yr olds.

This will be a creative art class for the younger children with a focus on mythical and fantastic creatures to fire up the imagination.
With new teacher and award winning artist Abby Howells, classes will explore the world of fantastic mythical creatures from around the world.  A variety of different techniques and media will be used, such a watercolour pencils, stencils and stamps, scratch, collage, dot painting, pastels, crayons and paint.

Tuesdays 4:00 till 5:30
Crafty Fun for Children 6 - 9 yrs

This class is all about having fun with craft.  Under the expert guidance Abby Howells, children will explore different techniques including cutting, pasting, tearing, weaving, etc.  Learning how to manipulate materials to make objects in 2D and 3D.

Wednesdays 4:00 till 5:30
Mixed Media for Children 9 - 12 yrs.

This is a class for older children who would like to take their art to the next level.  Award winning artist Cathie Cox will introduce children to a variety of media and demonstrate how to combine them to produce art works.

Thursdays 4:00 till 5:30
Drawing for children 9 - 12 yrs

This class is for those children wanting to learn the finer points of drawing.  Cathie Cox will guide the children on how to use different types of pencils and other drawing media.  Perspective, proportions and shading are just some of the skills which can be explored in this class.

Thankyou so much for your support for the concept of extending ArtStreet. Unfortunately we were not successful in that round of funding. However,
ArtStreet 2013 is still expanding and looking for your support.
The art meets commerce concept is continuing - this year's theme is "Story" - HIStory, HERstory, OURstory, THEIRstory, MYstory, Story Telling, Story Book.
We would love to see many more community group entries . Check out https://www.facebook.com/ArtStreetKatoomba for all the details. Entries are open now, and close 30April. The exhibition will run for the month of June.
The second prong of ArtStreet is the yarnbombing of all the trees and poles in Katoomba Street, between the top round about and the Waratah Street intersection.
Get clicking ! Minimum width 20 cms, maximum length 1 metre. All abilities, all colours, all welcome. We would love them finished by mid May.

Exibition news

Carolyn Eadie, our pottery teacher, is involved in an exhibition called "Arrivals,Departures" with other graduating students of the Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts at TAFE, Western Sydney Institute,12-44 O'Connell St, Kingswood.

 

The exhibition runs from 7th - 22nd November, Trapezium Gallery, P Block (entry via gate 2), 9am-4pm weekdays. Opening night 7th November 6.30pm.

Our 2013 Art Show is to be held from 11^th January to 19^thJanuary 2013.

The Rotary Club of Victor Harbor’s Annual Art Show is a very special event as it continues to grow in strength and popularity. The Art Show is Australia’s largest outdoor art exhibition. It continues to break all records, with the sales of artwork in excess of $350,000, over 10,000 people attending the event over nine days viewing in excess of 1,600 paintings on display. The Art Show is held in a marquee on Warland Reserve, Victor Harbor, South Australia during January each year during the town’s peak tourism period. The 2013 show will be the club’s 34^th.

There is a total of $35,550 in prize money to be won with the “Best of Show” winning a $12,500 cash prize.
