Life Drawing Exhibition - Body and Soul

Images from the recent Body and Soul Exhibition by the BMCAC Life Drawing Group.
"Congratulations to each of those 12 people who exhibited their works for our 29th annual event, we're going from strength to strength" - Joy

The Life Drawing Group held its 2012 Annual Body and Soul Exhibition at Glenbrook Theatre, with the Official Opening on Friday 31st August and over the following weekend, the 1st and 2nd of September.

Wow! Was the comment from one visitor and this sentiment was repeated by many over the weekend. As the venue is close to Glenbrook Park and attached to the Theatre many people who were unaware of the exhibition were given an unexpected treat.  Fathers Day on the Sunday also increased passersby and the number of visitors to the exhibition.

10 artists exhibited their works which included drawings, paintings and individual portfolios. The variety of expression in the drawings and paintings added to the visual smorgasboard.  You not only enjoyed the art for its own sake but were also able to learn something about the artists’ motivation.  Strong and/or subtle lines, colour and/or monotone, composition etc, all told a story. The portfolios also gave a personal view of each artist’s creative journey and allowed for unframed works to be displayed.

Richard Cutler, President of BMCAC warmed up the opening night audience before Thomas Arnold one of our life models talked about his experiences as a life model and then officially opened the exhibition.  It was interesting to hear that Thomas wanted to try life modelling as a supplementary income but is enjoying the work for its own sake and has met many interesting people along the way.

Red wine and tasty nibbles plus wonderful company made the opening a warming experience.  Exhibitors attended throughout the weekend to man the table which provided more time to take in the exhibition and enjoy stimulating conversation.  Thank you to Richard especially for his work in ensuring that the exhibition was manned throughout and for those who helped with setting up and taking down the display.  You know who are you.

Overall, the success of the exhibition was in enjoying the diversity in art on display and in bringing together like minded people. The Life Drawing Annual Exhibition was a positive experience for all and a wonderful way to promote the BMCAC as a central point for creative people in the Lower Blue Mountains. Although sales were lacking, the success of the exhibition is not diminished by this. The artists’ enthusiasm for creativity is the real measure of success.

Importantly, to all those artists who are hesitant to exhibit their works, please consider the wonderful opportunity that is afforded by the Life Drawing Body and Soul Exhibition and start planning for next year. As someone used to say, “You’ve got to be in it to win it!”

Landscape Painting Group Formed

A group of interested painters will be participating in a new group which has been organised by BMCAC president Richard Cutler and secretary Mary Grieg. This will be an informal group with no formal tuition, but plenty of sharing of ideas and techniques, and a social time for all.

The group will meet at the centre on Saturday 3rd March at 10:00am. From there they will depart for a morning of plein air painting at Glenbrook Lagoon. A new venue will be chosen each meeting. The fee for joining in is $5 per session. Painters need to provide their own materials. Easels are available for use.

New members are welcome to join in. Membership of the BMCAC is $50 per calendar year, and forms can be downloaded from the website.

Art classes for adults and children are also on offer with highly experienced teachers and artists Vicki Hersey and Hilary Stewart.
